- Support: Training in sustainable farming, financial assistance, and market linkages.
- Focus: Improve income, reduce dependency on middlemen, and enhance collective bargaining.
- Impact: Increased farmer income, better market access, and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Capacity Building: Provide skill development for better farm management and productivity.

Farmer Producer Organization (FPO)
A Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) is a collective of farmers who join forces to function as a single legal entity.
By pooling their resources and working collectively, FPOs help farmers to:
- Improve production efficiency
- Gain better access to modern technologies
- Reduce costs through bulk procurement of inputs
- Negotiate better prices for their produce
- Connect directly with larger markets
Government Support for FPOs
Recognizing the transformative potential of FPOs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, in collaboration with other agencies, has launched the 10,000 FPOs Scheme. This initiative provides financial assistance, grants, subsidies, and technical support to encourage the formation and sustainability of FPOs.
FPOs have become a powerful tool for rural development, allowing smallholder farmers to increase their income and compete more effectively in the market.
Cluster-Based Business Organization (CBBO)
To further strengthen FPOs, the government has introduced Cluster-Based Business Organizations (CBBOs). These organizations play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting the formation, operation, and growth of FPOs across India.
CBBO assist FPOs by:
- Providing Training & Capacity Building: Educating farmers about market trends, modern agricultural practices, and business strategies.
- Ensuring Legal & Compliance Support: Helping FPOs with registration, governance, and financial management.
- Facilitating Market Linkages: Connecting FPOs with national and international buyers, wholesalers, and food processing companies.
- Leveraging Digital Tools: Introducing farmers to digital platforms for better price discovery, logistics, and financial transactions.
CBBOs act as bridge organizations, enabling smallholder farmers to integrate into a structured and efficient supply chain.
