Strengthening Fisheries in Kerala: ICAR-CIFT Signs MoA with Farmer Producer Companies
On November 1, 2024, the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT) took a significant step toward strengthening Kerala’s fisheries sector by officially handing over the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to four Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs). The event, held at Kodungalloor Town Hall, saw the participation of Chittumala FPC, Masters FPC, Muthukulam Agroland FPC, and Chirayinkeezhu FPC.

A Milestone in Fisheries Collaboration
The MoA handover was presided over by Honorable Minister Sri. George Kurian and ICAR-CIFT Director Dr. George Ninan, marking a crucial milestone in fostering collaboration between ICAR-CIFT and local fisheries producer organizations. Representatives from each FPC were present, along with Dr. Sureshkumar, General Secretary of the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA).
Following the official handover, Dr. Ashalatha, Principal Scientist at ICAR-CIFT, delivered a detailed presentation outlining the objectives, benefits, and strategic initiatives outlined in the MoA. She emphasized how this agreement would pave the way for technological advancements, improved value chains, and sustainable fisheries practices.

The MoA establishes a structured framework for cooperation between ICAR-CIFT and the FPCs, focusing on:
